"Thomas Blakemore "T.B." Woodard, being a circuit-riding preacher,
was sent by the Illinois Methodist Church Conference to Kansas, he and
his wife, Mary and daughter, Adda, arriving in August of 1855, settling
near Clinton, Douglas Co., not far from the claim taken by (1A2) Lemuel
Woodard earlier in 1855.  Rev. Woodard's Missionary assignment was
interrupted, due to civil disorders, by his enlistment in Co. B, of
the Freestate Volunteers, and later being transferred to Co. E, of the
Kansas State Militia.  After resuming Missionary work, he was transferred
to Newark Co.  He was elected to the State Legislature in 1967, and
served two terms.  He was of the Eclectic school of medicine, and when
transferred to Wilson Co., in 1871, Dr. Woodard was recognized as a
prominent physician in area. He moved his family to Neodesha, and is
credited with the first Methodist Church Organization, and with the
building of the first Methodist Church there, dedicated on 24
August 1873."
